Code of Ethics of the International Hearing Society Update at Pure Sound Hearing Aids

We at Pure Sound Hearing Aids have updated our Code of Ethics in accordance to the International Hearing Society. 

Pure Sound is proud that our Director, Sean Mark, BC-HIS, is Board Certified and shares his knowledge daily with the Pure Sound staff to make sure all of our clients receive the best hearing care possible!

The National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences (NBC-HIS) is an independent, non-profit, organization that grant credentials. The credentials are enacted to advance the enduring and proficient assurance provided by hearing healthcare professionals, and maintain a standard of excellence in hearing healthcare for each patient.

Due to the rapid changes in hearing device technology, it is necessary to have a standard of excellence. The NBC-HIS aim to establish and uphold those standards through innovative thinking and a promise of excellence in order to benefit a hearing impaired patient.   

Those who earned the badge for Board Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences have shown the highest standards of skill and knowledge for Hearing Aid Specialists. They abide by the NBC-HIS Code of Ethics and National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) guidelines, and perform at an upstanding level of expertise that has been set by international standards. They have passed the National Competency Examination and continue to meet all recertification principles in order to maintain proper standing.   

Criteria for Earning the Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences Badge

• Accumulate two years of full-time dispensing experience or a diploma from select Hearing Instrument Sciences colleges (check NBC-HIS.com for a full listing).

• Provide verification of a current State/Provincial dispensing license, or Certification of Registration (where it is applicable), during the application process and every three years for recertification. 

• Agree to abide by the NBC-HIS guideline declarations when applying and re-attest to this every three years for recertification.

• Pass the National Competency Examination. This is a leading psychometric exam that is founded on sensible knowledge of distribution and decision-making abilities created to test the knowledge and skill levels necessary to excel as a hearing health professional.

• Observe a stern Code of Ethics to guarantee that professional conduct and safety standards are met for patients. 

• Complete recertification criteria every three years. The recertification ensures that all board certified members are keeping themselves up to date on the latest subject matter, regarding hearing instruments, through ongoing education requirements and have a current practicing license.   

• Acquire 24 hours of approved Continuing Education credits (CEs) within the three year recertification cycle. Adhere to the policies of certification.​
