Research on Hearing Aid Users and Hospital Visits
Analysts at the University of Michigan reviewed data from people between the ages of 65-85, who reported having severe hearing loss. Out of 1,500 individuals who were part of the study, nearly half wore hearing aid devices. The research determined that those who wore hearing aids were not as likely to have visited the hospital or emergency room within the last year. It was shown that those who had been to a hospital facility during that year, and did not wear hearing aids, had to spend a longer amount of time in the hospital. This research was found during a larger study to discover whether using hearing aids could reduce overall healthcare costs.
