The Journal of the American Medical Association stated that adults 70 years of age and older - with moderate or severe hearing loss had more than a 50 percent chance of mortality than those without hearing loss. Hearing loss itself is not proven to shorten lives. It’s the effects of hearing loss and a combination of factors, such as loneliness and isolation, which leads to dementia or Alzheimer’s that leads to higher death rates.
