The most common workplace injury in the United States is hearing loss. According to a study at Stanford University, moderate noise levels in the workplace cause more hearing loss than noisy environments because no hearing protection is worn in moderately noisy environments like it is with noisy ones. Workers in high-level noise must wear hearing protection, but there are no guidelines for moderately noisy environments. People with a work environment consistently having more than 85 decibels or higher should have hearing protection.
