A study from John Hopkins indicated that having mild hearing loss doubled the risks of dementia. Individuals who suffered from severe hearing loss were five times more likely to be diagnosed with dementia if they did not get treatment for their hearing loss.

Hearing incidental sounds, even if there is no direct communication, is crucial to keeping the brain engaged and processing sound waves. Studies on children have shown that incidental sounds and incidental learning are important in their early development. Noise management features are switched off in order to provide children with an introduction to as many sounds as possible.
