There’s a proven, great benefit to inviting family members into the rehabilitation process concerning hearing loss. Family members can start by going to a hearing loss sufferer’s initial evaluation. Subsequent visits are also encouraged. The hearing intake process is much better and more comprehensive that way. The more information the better. Instead of just using a patient history form, the hearing instrument specialist can then use a narrative from the perspective of the patient and their communication partner. Such a format lends itself to the creation of shared goals, better outcomes and greater satisfaction for the patient, family, and hearing instrument specialist.
