Osteoporosis and Hearing Loss

There is a connection between osteoporosis and hearing loss. Osteoporosis is a bone density disease affecting about 54 million Americans. According to a 2014 study of patients with this disease, there was a higher rate of sensorineural hearing loss.

According to the journal Clinical Otolaryngology, the three tiny bones in the middle ear can be affected by osteoporosis. The possible degeneration of the tiny bones and an increase in metabolic changes are connected to the higher rate of hearing loss, according to researchers.

The 2014 study also found that tinnitus problems were significantly higher in individuals with osteoporosis.
